The WiMedia revolutionary ultra wideband (UWB) radio platform allows manufacturers—of everything from personal computers and consumer electronics to mobile phones and automotive technology—to build in high-performance systems that easily transfer even the largest of files and streaming media over short ranges more quickly and more energy-efficiently than other wireless technologies. Not unlike choosing the right vehicle for a trip, the set of requirements for designing an efficient wireless personal area network (PAN), local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) are similarly application-specific.

This paper explains how the unique performance capabilities of WiMedia, WiFi and WiMAX are well-suited to their respective sectors and how, by focusing on practical realities, such as speed, power efficiency and range, key technology differentiators become self evident and drive the optimization of each radio toward the targeted application space.
