The number of consumer electronics devices in the home is constantly increasing. This, along with the increasing cost of energy and the desire to reduce carbon footprint, is driving the requirement for reduction in power consumption for both wireless and tethered applications. ARM is already well represented in consumer home electronics, but the low-power attributes of its processors will drive even more solutions to ARM in the future. In the set-top box (STB) market, the conflicting requirements of more performance and bandwidth for High Definition (HD) displays and lower power consumption will make ARM processor-based solutions increasingly more attractive to STB silicon suppliers. In this article, ARM and its Connected Community ecosystem of third-party vendors offer a complete solution for consumer electronics devices.
