With today's enormous design sizes and the growing trend of many engineers working on different parts of the same design, it is essential that a synthesis tool provide the flexibility for compiling different design blocks separately. This paper discusses an effective solution: a "bottom-up" flow, in which each designer can synthesize his or her own design block separately and then incorporate it into the top-level design for complete design synthesis.
