Adoption of the next-generation automotive protocol, FlexRay, is well underway, as automakers and their OEMs implement the standard in safety, comfort, and information systems and networks. FlexRay provides the significant advantage of deterministic behavior, includes a dual-redundant channel, and uses scalable static and dynamic message transmission that deliver guaranteed message latency time. This application note describes the FlexRay protocol and how it will work alongside CAN, as well as complement other proven networks, such as the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) and the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) network.
