Real-time digital signal processing (DSP) systems employ preemptive scheduling techniques to ensure time critical operations are given the priority required to operate correctly and meet their real-time deadlines. With the emerging application requirements to integrate Off-The-Shelf software components, using preemptive scheduling techniques will greatly simplify the integration process. Two, well-known preemptive scheduling algorithms are discussed in this paper - Rate Monotonic scheduling and Deadline Monotonic scheduling.
