This paper compares and contrasts the simulation of a 2.5Gbps differential driver simulated in HSPICE vs. simulation using one or more of the IBIS simulation tools. We begin by simulating a 2.5Gbps driver in HSPICE using the transistor level SPICE model. The simulations are of a simple point-to-point connection with several inches of lossy transmission line in between the driver model and receiver. Package effects are also accounted for in both HSPICE and IBIS environments.

We then translate the SPICE model into an IBIS behavioral model, and simulate the IBIS model in one or more of the IBIS simulation tools.

The results of each different simulation are compared to one another visually, using eye diagrams. The results are used to examine the applicability of using IBIS models for simulation of a 2.5Gbps differential systems.
