300 MHz Wideband Measurements to 50 GHz Center Frequency
Overview:
One of the paramount trends in today's communications and radar systems is the need for increased information bandwidth. This trend is particularly important for aerospace and defense systems. Both terrestrial and satellite communications systems are driven by demands for greater and greater data rates, which drive bandwidth. Similarly, radar systems are employing complex on-pulse modulation to improve target resolution and to minimize probability of intercept. To complicate system measurement requirements engineers are also demanding accurate phase and magnitude characterization of their wide band signals.

Prior to joining Hewlett-Packard in 1994 Mr. Gheen had worked for eleven years as a radar systems engineer and engineering program manager. In this capacity Mr. Gheen was involved in the design, development, analysis, and testing of electronic warfare (EW) and radar systems, for U.S. Government agencies. In addition, Mr. Gheen Managed a radar measurement laboratory where he was involved in developing automated test systems used to characterize radar and EW systems. Also, during this time frame Mr. Gheen managed a team of engineers and technicians that were developing specialized sensors used to characterize ultra wide-band RF emissions from RF and other directed energy weapons.

Since joining Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies Mr. Gheen has worked as a solution architect and program manager, task with development of custom RF test systems. For the last eight years Mr. Gheen has worked as an applications engineer with Agilent Technology's Signal Analysis Division, where he works with customers to develop measurement solutions involving spectrum and vector signal analyzers.
