Getting More Out of Your Digital Oscilloscope
Overview:
The digital oscilloscope has become the most commonly used test tool on the engineer's bench, but most engineers use only a fraction of the power available in these instruments.

This one hour seminar will start with basic information on how to optimize many of the every day uses of scopes including achieving maximum system accuracy of the amplifier/ADC and the effects of probes (and choosing probes). The material will then move to more advanced techniques for finding intermittent signal faults, characterizing timing/jitter problems, developing insights from histograms of signal data, and creating custom measurements. The final topic will cover the use of tools to document measurements and for sharing measurement results with colleagues (or vendors).

A large part of the material consists of examples taken from real world oscilloscope use and are focused primarily on the use of oscilloscopes for signals from DC up to 2 GHz. However many of the concepts also apply at higher bandwidths. The material will offer good advice for using all brands of oscilloscopes. Any design or test engineer who uses these instruments is recommended to attend. In addition to the presentation there will be time for live Q&A.

Presenter:
Dr. Michael Lauterbach is Director-Product Management for LeCroy Corporation where he has worked for 25 years-beginning in Engineering Services. His PhD is from Yale in high energy physics while his undergraduate education at Carleton College included a double major in math and physics. He has published more than 50 papers on the use of digital test instruments for a variety of applications, presented technical seminars at many conferences and at more than 200 customer sites including Motorola, IBM, Lucent and the US State Department.
