DESCRIPTION
High current and low voltage requirements of today's complex integrated circuits are driving increased replacement of low cost linear regulators by switching regulators. This course reviews linear regulators and PWM control methods, then provides important details for designing synchronous buck converters: calculating losses, preventing shoot-through, multi-phase options, and a discrete alternative to DrMOS. Following this, Fairchild's low-cost, hybrid approach to digital control is detailed.
