Wireless technology developed at
the dawn of the twentieth century from late nineteenth century
scientific concepts and experiments. At the start of the
twenty-first century, the now pervasive wireless industry is
undergoing further remarkable changes which are sure to influence
the social and economic environment. In this talk,
we examine the dramatic progress in wireless brought about by the
digital transformation empowered by solid state technology and the
blending of computer and communication technologies.
We proceed to explore the impact of
progressively greater miniaturization and integration on
manufacturing, distribution and service industries and we conclude
with the impact of this progress on the economy and society in the
coming decades.
