DESCRIPTION In this lecture, we
concentrate on linear and nonlinear system simulations, where
simple programs or spreadsheets may be used to simulate linear and
nonlinear systems. We will investigate a process known as Delta t,
or Dt, which allows the simulation of most processes using
numerical integration. Instead of using complex
algorithms or tricks to save computing time, the Dt process uses
basic differential equations where the work is performed by your
microcomputer or PC. We will see that using this process, the
inherent accuracy and resolution of spreadsheets provide very
accurate simulations.
PREREQUISITES The prerequisites for this lecture are a
limited basic knowledge of calculus and physics.
INTENDED AUDIENCE The target audience for this lecture is
engineering students through advanced systems engineers.
