DESCRIPTION
Of all the types of programming performed today, writing device drivers is one of the most challenging and interesting. In contrast to application programming, the device driver developer has to be concerned with hardware details at the lowest levels as well as the problems of concurrency at the operating system level. These additional complexities not only make device driver programming much more difficult, but also make it more interesting and challenging. We will present the major features and techniques used in writing a device driver under Unix and NT. This lecture provides general guidance for those wishing to learn or understand how to write device driver under Unix and NT.
