Radiated Performance Test Challenges for WiMAXTM Devices
Overview:
Wireless technologies have evolved from the voice centric 2G applications to data centric 4G technologies. One of the emerging standards that has seen significant traction in recent times is the 802.16e or Mobile WiMAX™. The promise of Mobile WiMAX is to provide users with high speed data (10-15 Mbits per second) in a typical cellular radius.

The WiMAX Forum®, an industry consortium, was formed to promote the development of devices meeting the 802.16e standard and ensure interoperability between network and mobile elements. WiMAX Forum certified devices would have to pass a range of certification tests for radio conformance, protocol conformance and interoperability. In order to ensure an exceptional user experience, radiated performance testing will also be a requirement for WiMAX Certification.

ETS Lindgren and Agilent Technologies, Inc. have partnered to provide contributions to the WiMAX Forum Radiated Performance Tests for Subscriber and Mobile Stations. ETS-Lindgren has demonstrated fully automated TRP & TIS testing of WiMAX devices using the Agilent E6651A as the base station emulator.

This webcast will cover the details of the antenna chamber setup and WiMAX protocol mechanisms (UL Padding, Ping, HARQ, Power control) that have been tapped to make a robust TRP and TIS measurements. To date, ETS-Lindgren has collected data on a number of WiMAX data cards, and we will present some of the early TIS and TRP data in this webcast. With WiMAX Wave-2 devices there is significant interest in testing MIMO devices. The Webcast will address the specifics of how RPT testing relates to MIMO devices.
