| Optimize Your Mobile Device Run-time using Innovative Battery Drain Analysis Techniques |

Overview:
The increasing complexity of the latest multi-functional wireless mobile devices, and urgency to get them to market in less time, place unprecedented demands across the entire R&D groups developing them. Designers need to perfect much more sophisticated energy conservation techniques to offset the new, power hungry capabilities offered. Design Validation (DV) test groups must shake down new designs under a much more extensive set of conditions. All of this must be done under a compressed project schedule. The testing breakthrough is to conduct crucial battery drain characterization tests under real-world RF call conditions using program automation.
An overview of innovative techniques for characterizing and analyzing battery drain for validating and optimizing wireless mobile device operating times will be provided. It will then be shown how a flexible test platform – combining necessary RF and DC stimulus and measurements all under software control – makes such testing not only possible, but with the added benefit of being accomplished with much less time and effort.

Ed Brorein holds a BSEE degree from Villanova University and an MSEE degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Ed is a member of the IEEE and Power Electronics Societies. He is currently an applications specialist for Agilent Technology's System Products Division, working in the power products group in New Jersey, where he has held a variety of engineering positions in R&D, manufacturing, and marketing over the past 28 years. Over the past decade he has worked extensively with leading handset manufacturers and has been instrumental in defining and bringing battery drain measurement and analysis solutions to market in support of their R&D needs.
