TI has released the TCA6408A, a low-voltage 8-Bit I2C I/O Expander with integrated voltage-level translation, interrupt output, reset, and configurable registers, making it suited for a variety of applications including handsets, consumer products, computing, medical and next generation telecommunications systems. With its dual-voltage supply design, the TCA6408A can interface with any I2C bus operating from 1.65 to 5.5V and provide 8 serially controlled I/Os with standard 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, or 5V logic levels on the expansion ports facilitating mixed voltage-mode communication. The TCA6408A can also be used as a basic keypad controller and issue an interrupt to a microprocessor through the open-drain /INT pin when a key press is detected.
