MicroConverter — From Stand-Alone ADCs to Programmable High Precision Converters

This paper focuses on some of the process, design, and implementation challenges that were addressed during the development of the first two MicroConverter products from Analog Devices, namely the ADuC812 and the ADuC824.

A brief overview of the MicroConverter target application area is provided and block diagrams for both products are presented. Key challenges in the integration task undertaken as part of this product development are described in detail. Challenges specifically related to the area of Flash memory integration, automatic and self calibration, precision DC specifications, and clock synchronization schemes are presented. The paper concludes with a detailed description of the Flash memory architecture used on the MicroConverter family and how this has faciliated a seamless inclusion of in-circuit debug and emulation features on all parts.
