Dual-core Intel processors offer embedded systems designers strong computing horsepower at low cost for performance-hungry applications, such as imaging, gaming and test and measurement systems. The Intel Core Duo processor architecture provides two processing cores and is carefully architected to take optimal advantage of the two cores. In dual-channel memory configurations, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor shows performance gains of more than 50% for general purpose computing tasks and nearly 30% for imaging, graphics processing, and data acquisition applications. This paper describes how RadiSys taps the potential of multi-core computing with the Procelerant CE945GM, a 125mm (L) x, 95-mm, (W) Basic COM Express form factor module, which combines the Intel Core 2 Duo processors with dual channel memory.
