Laptop battery manufacturer Battery Technology (BTI) had a number of issues to address in mid-2003 when it began work on the next generation of products. BTI wanted to bring design work back in-house, and planned to hire an internal engineering team to do so. The new team would need help, though. So, the company turned to Avnet for help with design and supplier selection, which led to Atmel.
