When moving from older ARM processor-based SoCs to newer ARM11 processor based family or ARM Cortex processor-based SoCs, traditional approaches to interconnect architecture causes a need to also upgrade the entire interconnect architecture and all library elements that must connect to it. This results in escalating re-engineering and increased verification activities beyond the actual upgrade of the processor, and the project is closer to a full-up new SoC design in terms of time to develop, development costs, and risk factors.
