There is explosive growth in the integration of cameras into mobile phones with consumers demanding both high pixel count and high image quality. To date, image sensor vendors have focused on delivering low-light performance; however, with shrinking pixel sizes enabling high pixel count, there is increased demand for high performance/image quality under bright light conditions. This paper describes Toshiba's solution to this challenge: Dynastron-WD wide dynamic range technology for CMOS image sensors.
