In the design of any portable electronic system, close attention to power management at the silicon level is critical for three overriding reasons: the ultimate size and cost of the finished product, and the battery life of the system. In this paper, we will look at the key factors to consider in development of a system-on-chip (SoC) microcontroller architecture that includes an MCU core, on-chip peripherals and memory.
