Low power, cost-effective wireless sensors have been the mantra of the sensor community for many years. Unfortunately, the real availability of a simple wireless protocol that can enable this has never been adequately addressed until recently when the ZigBee Alliance ratified its ZigBee wireless technology. ZigBee networking takes advantage of the IEEE802.15.4 wireless standard, which was crafted to solve the many challenges of the sensor community.
