A new architecture for implementing FIR filters using the RNS is detailed. The design is based on using a hybrid approach, in other words, RNS operations are implemented using conventional binary arithmetic hardware. The gain delivered by the RNS is obtained by using a set of small moduli, selected so as to minimize critical path delay and component count. The moduli are restricted to a special form, rather than using the smallest prime numbers available.
