Bluetooth, a familiar wireless technology for peer-to-peer communication between mobile devices, is invading the automotive world. The popularity of Bluetooth headsets for the mobile phone has made vehicle manufacturers to offer Bluetooth capability as either part of their standard package or as an option. This paper discusses the development of Bluetooth in the current market place and its introduction to the automotive market. It also talks about what type of Bluetooth applications—profiles, are being offered in cars right now and what future applications are being developed for cars. It lists the different models of automotives—now over 33 models, that offer Bluetooth in their 2004, 2005 and 2006 models. Other wireless technologies that are potentially going to be implemented in the automotive market are also discussed.
