The Tachyon family of Fibre Channel Controller chips began in 1994 and has evolved over the last 10 years to accommodate advancements in both, Fibre Channel Technology and in system bus interconnect technology. This paper provides an introduction to the Tachyon family, which now implements 1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb Fibre Channel links, and connects to the system through PCI, PCI-X or PCI-Express interfaces.
