Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA), the new specification from the PCI Industrial Computers Manufacturing Group (PICMG), has been adopted with the participation of more than 100 companies. It provides the telecom industry with an open, standards-based hardware platform that enables Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) to shift their technical resources from the development of proprietary hardware to the more rapid development of new generations of applications and services. This paper provides an overview of the strategic benefits of AdvancedTCA architecture for TEMs. Reviewing this paper will also enable TEMs to compare the technical features and benefits of AdvancedTCA with other architectural frameworks.
