New technology advances in converged wireless devices has led to increased software complexity and the need for higher software development productivity. Announced in October 2003 to power future mobile devices, Freescale Semiconductor's Mobile Extreme Convergence (MXC) architecture provides all the core features of a smartphone in a postage-stamp-sized chip, enabling more powerful devices at lower costs. Freescale joined with Virtio to produce the VPMXC virtual platform to accelerate both internal and external software development.

This article discusses Virtio's virtual platform simulation approach, which is now available to all developers to accelerate software and device development for Freescale semiconductor products.
