The handheld and portable market has increased greatly in the past few years. Devices with smaller form factor and increased performance continue to define future applications. Designers of these systems are presented with challenges that include increased system performance and faster time-to-market. Applications of this caliber are characterized as performing faster, smaller in size, longer battery life, and marketable ahead of the competition. The QuickLogic Eclipse II family of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) was developed to address these needs for low power applications. Eclipse II devices are faster, smaller, and consume less power. This white paper discusses the advantages of using the Eclipse II family of FPGAs in low power applications such as handheld and portable devices.
