DESCRIPTION
In addition to application components and entities, a ZigBee network must contain infrastructure components that will help the network operate securely and reliably in the face of interference and changing conditions. This class takes a cradle-to-grave view of the ZigBee device life-cycle and walks the prospective developer through the ins and outs of putting together ZigBee applications that do what they're expected to do for as long as they're expected to do it.

Zachary Smith has been the technical editor of the ZigBee specification and the ZigBee network layer specification, the vice-chair of the ZigBee architecture task group and a member of most of the important committees and working groups within ZigBee, as well as a participant in IEEE 802.1.5.4b. As CTO of Daintree Networks, he is responsible for formulating and implementing the company's technology strategy. His career includes positions as Chief Software Architect and founder of the seminal Ember Corporation, 6 years surfing the .com bubble with vivid Studios and Rare Medium, a 5-year stint as a professional rock musician, as well as engineering work in a wide variety of areas, including automated placement and routing tools for PC-CAD systems, GUI development frameworks in LISP and, perhaps his most enduring accomplishment, the home-video version of Donkey Kong for ColecoVision. He has a BA in Music from Hampshire College.
