The camera flash has existed in mobile phones for several years now. Users tend to compare these LED flashes against a Xenon flash from a pocket camera. As the flash LED is operating too long and its brightness was too weak, this resulted in blurred images. Using a new Supercap based architecture, the brightness of a two LED flash now closes the gap between LED flash and Xenon solutions. The ams solution uses the energy from the Supercap in the most efficient way by using a dual DC-DC converter. This allows optimizing the required space and area making it competitive to integrate into mobile phones. Now users get Xenon like performance in thin mobile phone form factors.
