As the resistors used in electronic applications with low power consumption get smaller and smaller, their pulse load capability is becoming more critical. With continuous pulse loads and single pulse loads having different affects on the components, overload conditions must be considered in the design phase. This application note will explore causes for overload, calculation of pulse loads, and provide a load test example to help designers select the right resistor for their application.
