High-Performance Reconfigurable Computing (HPRC) is a computer architecture combining reconfigurable computing-based accelerators like field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) with CPUs, multi-core microprocessors, or other parallel computing systems. This paper will focus on the embedded segment and current technological options available to a designer. Also covered is the role of FPGAs in high performance designs and how it stacks up against other technologies.
