As part of the "green" movement in electronics, fixed platform point-of-load (POL) power management schemes are no longer immune to scrutiny. Monitoring the load current in these distributed power-supply circuits has become as important as protecting the POL’s downstream electronics. This application note discusses how both objectives can be inexpensively met with the design of an easy-to-implement latched output, auto shutdown control circuit for DC/D converters.
