This paper proposes a "Smart City Architecture" that employs a multitude of modular, sensor-based devices that fit seamlessly into the existing infrastructure. We describe the design principles of the sensor modules, aggregators, backend services, analytics, and data management. We then propose a variety of smart city sensor applications including microclimate sensing, pollution and structural monitoring, home management, traffic control, and water quality monitoring.
