This paper explores a more modern approach to system development built on a model-driven design (MDD) approach. MDD directly addresses the three key challenges of systems design-sequential design, document-driven design, and isolated development. The concurrent, data-driven, and connected environment of MDD results in higher quality systems developed more quickly and at less cost. With an MDD approach, iterations are fast and easy, and concurrent design, validation, and verification occur at each stage of design evolution. As part of the overall verification and validation, MDD can reduce reliance on late-stage integration testing and minimize the chances of finding serious problems too late.
