The ability to accurately characterize balanced devices with a vector network analyzer (VNA) when the devices are operating under nonlinear conditions, has always been impractical and prone to error. Such inaccuracy is potentially damaging to the reputations of manufacturers of RF power transistors, amplifiers, MMICs, filters, single chip receivers, and other balanced RF devices, as their incorrectly specified parts can lead to degradation or failure of their host systems. Rohde & Schwarz has developed a method for accurately evaluating the performance of active devices operating in their large-signal region. Read this paper to learn more.
