Today, multi-core processing units are the response to the need for more performance and PCI Express has become a standard in computer industry. The outcome of PCIe external cabling specification establishes a standard method of using PCIe technology over a cable, allowing a physical separation between the computing element and I/O resources. This paper shows how the PEV1100 can help system designers to upgrade existing systems while keeping their investment in terms of hardware and software. The impact of PEV1100 in terms of test bench architecture evolution for real time testing items are emphasized.
