As industrial system complexity increases, FPGAs offer the ability to integrate an entire system on a chip (SoC), at a lower cost compared to discrete MCU, DSP, ASSP, or ASIC solutions. This document describes using an Altera industrial-grade FPGA as a coprocessor or SoC to bring flexibility to industrial applications. Providing a single, highly integrated platform for multiple industrial products, Altera FPGAs can substantially reduce development time and risk.
We keep hearing about the benefits of integrating the MCU function into the FPGA. Modern MCUs have boatloads of memory, lots of peripherals, a variety of special functions (PWM, low power modes, self write, capture/compare, etc) and are really inexpensive. I'd really like to see a head to head comparison between an FPGA and any modern MCU in a real application. What size FPGA will be needed, at what cost and what power. Give us some numbers not more marketing fluff...
Very useful information and i am pleased to read it......Really a educative and informative post, the post is good in all regards,I am glad to read this post.
