This paper looks at the potential raw material, shipping and toxin savings which can be gained by introducing semiconductor technology into HDMI cables. This concept, known as "active" cables, is introduced as an alternative way to produce high performance cables. Active cables are up to four times thinner than "wire" or traditional cables. A wider adoption of active cables on the market will lead to reduced demands for raw material and worldwide shipments as well as reduced exposure to toxins which can be released when PVC is burned.
