EnOcean has joined this wave of new wireless technology, developing wireless sensor systems based on energy harvesting techniques. These systems harness energy in their immediate environment—for example, illuminating a light bulb with only the small bit of mechanical energy required to press a light switch. Solar-driven motion sensors, thermostats, industrial sensors, and many other wireless devices have already been successfully deployed on a wide-scale, providing low-cost, flexible wireless monitoring and control. This paper describes EnOcean wireless sensor technology in detail and outlines its numerous benefits, providing real examples of deployment.
