This paper describes techniques and products to help a Synchronicity installation achieve a Highly Available (HA), fault resistant requirement. A fault resistant environment expects that problems will occur and solutions are already in place to act on the failure. Note: A fault resistant, highly available computing environment should not be confused with a fault tolerant environment. Fault tolerant systems have stringent uptime requirements, have double and triple redundant systems and can typically cost many millions of dollars. A fault resistant environment does not try to continue normal operations through a fault, but will try to recover from the vault as soon as possible and resume normal operations.
