MPEG-4 (ISO14496) is an ISO/IEC standard developed by MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group). The first version of the MPEG-4 standard was finalized in October 1998 and became an international standard at the beginning of 1999. Although defined as one standard, MPEG-4 is actually a set of compression/decompression formats and streaming technologies that address the need for distributing rich interactive media over narrow and broadband networks. This Optibase technical paper introduces MPEG-4.
