Receiver Architectures For Wireless LAN
More InfoLess Info
The four techniques of Maximal Ratio Combining, Per-Packet Antenna Diversity, MIMO and Broadcast Mode MIMO each use additional antennas and computational circuits to achieve higher throughput rates, either by reducing the fade depths or by increasing the base channel capacity. This paper will review these four techniques, discuss implementation requirements, and provide key architectures. The paper will present the individual strengths as well as weaknesses for each technique. In particular, the suitability of each technique for WLAN-enabled consumer electronic products will be discussed. Finally, one approach which combines receive only (null steering) MIMO with Per-Packet Antenna Diversity will be introduced.
