Linux is a UNIX compatible, open-source operating system originally designed for desktop computer use, but it has become even more popular for use in network servers. The biggest impact of Linux, though, may turn out to be in embedded devices. This paper discusses challenges facing embedded designers who wish to use Linux in their products and offers some solutions.
