This paper discusses the architecture of an efficient new digital signal processing (DSP) platform design, describing both hardware and software components. In order to respond to the need for flexibility and ease of use without adversely affecting performance, this architecture is based on a network interface. The system runs on an Ethernet network, sending data and retrieving commands via HTML pages. The platform can thus be accessed by any kind of terminal (such as a PC, a portable PC, or a workstation) using very common hardware and software: an Ethernet interface card and a web browser.

This innovative design includes a Gigabit Ethernet standard and floating point DSP in a multiprocessor architecture for strong performance, and a TCP/IP stack embedded in a DSP processor for reduced complexity.
