More Info +- Less Info

Have you ever wondered what is going on inside a USB cable?  - Then this course is for you.  The Fundamentals of USB course covers USB in great detail from the history of connected devices which brought about the need for USB through USB certification testing.  We’ll cover physical characteristics of the cable and connector along with the electrical characteristics of signaling and power provisioning in USB.  The host centric topology that keeps the complexity in the host which allows for simpler and therefore less costly devices to be manufactured. Then we will delve into the process of enumeration, where the host learns what the device is, and decides if it can talk to it. We then cover USB class drivers, which are host drivers for classes of like-minded devices that preclude the need manufacturers to provide host drivers. Testing USB devices is a part of the USB specification and therefore covered in this course in order to make sure your device will interoperate on the USB bus as well as be ready for USB certification.  Finally, we’ll look at some examples of USB implementations in action.

You should keep it downloadable so that we can view it when we like. Even as a reference material. Its a very good tutorial.

Can you use something other than flash? I'd like to use my iPad/iPhone to view so I can work on my computer while playing the tutorial. Maybe a downloadable version as nisushah suggests above.

Hi all: We're delighted you're enjoying the Fundamentals of USB course, but unfortunately we can't make it downloadable at this point, for many reasons. We hope that doesn't detract too much from the learning experience. Keep in mind, that you can pause and come back to the course at your leisure. Best regards!

all that is alright but HOW do we make a USB device. Some extreme amount of work goes into it since the device programming and the host programming, both need to be done.

This kind of material should be playable in an iPhone. I know that you are not to blame for Apple feuds, but the fact is that a significant audience uses iPhone/iPads .

Why don't you give this for download so that we can refer it whenever we need even when we do not have internet connection?

Thanks for this very nice presentation. Now I could help myself understand USB and help its data stream flow through my mind. If you can't make it as a downloadable, please keep this one in EETimes or techonline for a certain amount of time. If it is still not easy, please upload to youtube for all share. I went through this presentation 2 times now.

I might say this is really a good stuff. Being a freelancer tech right now, I'm having hard time catching up w/ today's developments in the electronics designs and although it's a little bit complicated, I can digest the over-view ideas as to USB advanced tech. I appreciate your efforts to give us up dates on what's new in the tech innovations. Thumbs up. Thanks

This is a very informative course and introduction on the USB apparatus. As pointed out by many who have commented, it would be very helpful if it could be a downloadable course or at least in another format instead of Flash. Otherwise, this course has helped me understand how the USB device works, what went into the technology in order to build such a compact and remarkable piece of equipment and how to make it work to my advantage. It's too bad that I can't take the material with me wherever I go and I hope something will be done to alleviate this issue in the near future.

This was a wonderful intro to USB specifics!! I can't thank you enough for all the work and effort you put into this class. Although this class doesn't replace the $100 in USB books I purchased, it sure does come close.
