Memec was founded in 1974 as a private UK specialist supplier of advanced technology semiconductors. It became a publicly quoted company in 1981. Generic growth and strategic acquisitions enabled expansion into Europe, America, Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. In 1991, Memec joined the VEBA AG group as the first of three independent semiconductor distributors.
